There
have been major changes at the Wine and Beer Company over recent months.
In fact, they have a new name - 'Wine and Beer World' and they are
owned by Majestic Wine plc, the well known UK outlet.
We are happy to reproduce the company's own
press release and photographs and our own verdict is shown underneath
the photos.
"Majestic Wine Warehouses has opened its
new ‘Wine & Beer World’ drinks superstore in Calais following a £500,000
refit. Incorporating 12,000 sq. ft., previously used as warehousing, the new
retail space is nearly double the size of its predecessor.
Aimed squarely at UK shoppers visiting
France to stock up on wine, beer and champagne at low French prices, the new
store will be an unmissable destination for bargain hunters and wine
enthusiasts alike.
Wine & Beer World, previously known as The
Wine & Beer Company, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Majestic Wine PLC, the
UK's largest wine warehouse group, which has 102 stores nationwide.
The Wine & Beer World superstore has many new features to
attract customers and encourage them to shop.
- A large tasting area where a range of wines will be available
to taste free, all day, every day
- English-speaking sales team, including Majestic UK staff on secondment,
to advise customers on their wine choice.
- A new customer car park with covered loading area for protection
in bad weather.
- Pre-order desk for quick and convenient collection of orders placed
by customers from home.
- UK orders office available on 01923 298297 to take orders and
give advice to customers before they travel.
- A fully transactional website allowing customers to browse the
range from home and place their order for collection from any of
our four stores in Calais, Coquelles, Cherbourg & Le Havre.
Why not take a look at the website and place your order online?
Majestic Wine
- Children's activity area and customer toilets.
- All products are priced in Sterling, which is accepted at the
checkouts. Customers can see exactly what they will pay, without
any confusion over exchange rates. Customers may also pay with Euros
or by cheque or credit card."

Booze-cruise.net's
verdict:
This
branch of Wine and Beer World is within easy reach of the
Calais favourites Cheers, Eastenders and Pidou, so it's well
worth checking out.
While
not as large as some of the others, it is uncluttered and easy
to find your way around. Their range is good, and in particular,
we use them to stock up on Ruddles County, which is attractively
priced, and not stocked by all the Calais outlets.
Car
parking is easy and the store accepts credit and debit cards
- although you need to show your passport if paying by this
method.
For
all pre-orders over £400, choose from a FREE ferry day
trip crossing on SeaFrance or £30 discount towards your
travel expenses. Even better, increase your order and they will
increase your discount! Place an £800 pre-order and they
will give you £70 Off or pay for a van crossing on SeaFrance.
Their pre-ordering service guarantees your order and saves you
time and offers fantastic travel discounts!

Wine
&Beer World are part of the well known Majestic Group,
which have stores all over the UK. If you don't fancy making
the trip to Calais, you can order from their website, and
although the goods will be at UK prices, value for money looks
very good.
All
in all, Wine & Beer World is worth a visit. It is a useful
addition to the Calais family of outlets, and offers genuine
choice to the booze-cruiser or day-tripper. |
