Brittany Ferries operate services from Portsmouth (about 3 hours) and Poole (around 5 hours). However, the Poole service stops between 10th November 2005 and 23rd January 2006. Some stores that are well worth a visit are: Auchan (just outside Cherbourg)

The Fort du Roule provides a fantastic view of the port.The Musée de la Libération, commemorating D-Day and the liberation of Cherbourg in the Second World War can also be found here. The famous Bayeux Tapestry from the 11th century, depicting the Battle of Hastings can be seen just a short drive from Cherbourg. If you have time, this is a must-see.
